Hi friends! Happy New Year! It's our resolution to continue working with our community to make D5 the best place it can be for everyone. Don't forget to check out our resources page! Stay up to date on all information about the flu and COVID by visiting the Health Department's website where you can look for your most convenient vaccine locations and more. CALLING ALL YOUTH ARTISTS!
Are you a youth artist (Grades K-12) who lives or attends school in District 5? Create an artwork that expresses why you love your district and submit it to the second annual D5 Youth Art Contest by February 14th, 2023. Check out some of last year's submissions and winners above! Students should submit their completed works to their school office or organization to be picked up by D5 staff, or works can be delivered to the District 5 Office at 33 N. Stone, the 11th floor lobby. All artwork will be displayed at the Youth Art Contest Exhibition in March.

Makula Kaba, a senior at Catalina High School, was honored as a student success story at the Office of English Language Acquisition Services conference for her achievements and outstanding qualities. Congratulations Makula!

VECINOS IN ACTION
David Garcia is the founder of Barrio Restoration, an organization that coordinates community cleanups in Tucson barrios. They "focus on beautifying neglected spaces in Southside Tucson through landscaping & traditional earth work. Creating a clean and safe environment with the goal to encourage our people to take ownership and reinvest in our barrios and culture."

POLICY UPDATES
JANUARY
It was an honor to attend the swearing in ceremony of our Justice Court Judges! I'm proud to know each one of them.
Inauguration Day
On January 5th I attended the inauguration ceremony for Governor Katie Hobbs, Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, and Attorney General Kris Mayes.
Opening Day AZ State Legislature
Thank you to State Senator Rosanna Gabaldon for inviting me and my team to join you in this busy and hopeful beginning to the 56th Legislative Session.
Community Food Bank Visit
Thank you so much for the team at the Community Food Bank (CFB) for taking us on a tour of your operations! The CFB is visited by over 500 families daily, provides over 28,000 bags of food every month, and serves people and organizations spread over 23,000 square miles.
MLK Day 2023
On January 16th, the community gathered to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the District 5 Office was proud of join in the march and celebration, rain or shine. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
2023 Everyone Counts
On January 25th, the District 5 team volunteered in the Everyone Counts! Pima County Street Count initiative to interview unhoused folks and provide information about resources. Thank you to the Tucson Pima Collaboration to End Homelessness for organizing the event!
